“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” – Lao Tze
The above quote by Lao Tze is a great quote, but there is one question you need to know the answer to before you take that single step – in which direction do you want to go. The correct answer to that question is so often the problem. If you take that first step in the wrong direction, your journey of 1000 miles will take you 1000 miles in the WRONG way.
There are amazing stories of animals knowing what is the right path or direction to take. Salmon are able to return to the streams where they were born after spending years swimming in the ocean. They return to the same stream where they were born, traveling enormous distances so they can lay their eggs, to help create a new generation of salmon.
How do they know what direction to take and begin their journey that begins with a single motion of their fins?
One theory is that salmon use special magnetic navigation to figure out which way to travel. And when they arrive at the mouth of the stream that would lead them to the place where they were born, they are able to smell the stream’s special scents, following these scents to their birthplace.
The story of how swallows would fly over 12,000 miles round-trip from their winter home in Argentina and travel to southern California, at the Mission of Capistrano, is very well known. What do these birds have to know to fly in the right direction to arrive at their true destination?
What must you know and understand about yourself to help you “travel” in the right direction for your career, so you can “Confidently go in the direction of your dreams, and live the life you imagine.”
There are really three basic factors to understand: your talents, your personality, your purposes. The Foundations of Brilliance helps you to understand and gain certainty about these factors so you can begin your journey of a thousand miles with one step, IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
