“It is not true you stop pursuing purpose(s) when you grow old, you grow old when you stop pursuing purposes.” (A paraphrase of a quote by Alfonso Molina)

The definition I use for purpose is “The reason for which something exists, or for which it has been done, or made.” It is not a job title, it is not a mission, it is the reason you are doing something that truly impels you.

Are you growing old? Are you staying young? Are you still pursuing your career or educational dreams and purposes? Are you still creating and pursuing dreams that aligns with your purpose?

How satisfied are you that you have achieved or are achieving your dreams in your chosen career path, the dreams you had when you began your career?

Or, have you stopped pursuing those dreams because …? Or you don’t have dreams you are pursuing because you don’t have a purpose that impels you?

How willing are you to create those dreams to pursue? Or do you think with a “what’s the use” mentality? Do you dare to dream large dreams, or do you confine yourself to small ones because …?

Who are the most vital, energetic and alive people you know or have met? What are the dreams, the purposes they are pursuing?

Eleanor Roosevelt commented, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

Are you creating a future for yourself and believe in the beauty of your dreams, and the impelling power of your clear statement of purpose(s)?

For me, there is potential magic in the above quote. Though I won’t call it the “fountain of youth,” it is a source of youthful feeling and zest for life. Every once in a while we hit the wall, we lose, we fail, we hear the word “no” too many times. We feel stopped by life, our colleagues, our environment; then we begin to feel old (no matter our actual age). At those times, let’s revisit our dreams, our purposes; let’s continue in the pursuit of those dreams, let’s stay young.

Take a couple of moments and can you write out the dreams and purposes, the big ones you truly want to pursue, and you know you can achieve by believing in the beauty of those dreams.

If you are unclear and uncertain of your purpose(s) and thus are uncertain of your dreams, the Foundations of Brilliance program can help you gain the clarity you need to “stay young!”
